The Better Brands:

3×1 is a NYC denim shop that has the largest collection of selvedge denim in the world and aims to make the best jeans in the world. Their 24 makers work inside the Mercer Street shop itself, a symbolic and practical way to promote transparent supply chains. These jeans could be your key to fewer better things.

Brookes Boswell is a bespoke hat label that helps us skip fast fashion and reap the benefits from slow fashion. Brookes Boswell is the artisan herself in Portland, Oregon, and her process minimizes waste. Protect from the elements in style.

Mela Artisans offers a full scale of accessories made by heart and hand. 1% of Mela Artisan’s revenues are put towards a variety of initiatives in health and energy access for their collective of makers. The brand preserves traditional craft and believes that good design is no more or less important than humane treatment of the makers who bring those designs to life.

Mercado Global provides a sustainable livelihood for indigenous people of Guatemala. The brand works to empower their makers so these people can overcome poverty and become agents of change in their communities. These stylish bags are sturdy and the definition of well-made.

Patagonia is a brand leader who believes in maintaining products as long as possible and will take back your clothes and repair or recycle them! On Black Friday this year, they donated 100% of sales to grassroots environmental organizations, what totaled $10 million! Bravo!

Soko is an ethical jewelry line that’s handmade from sustainable materials by makers in Kenya who are paid more than fair trade standards! Featured here is their Kazi Cuff, which celebrates women who werk. The initials engraved in the bracelet connect us hardworking women to the artisan women in Kenya who have overcome their own unique set of challenges. Pick your companion, rep the maker!

Tonlé is the inspiring zero-waste line we got to know while on Journey #5 in Cambodia. The line is made by makers who are supported through fair wages, health benefits and a nurturing work environment. Tonlé has also partnered with the Cambodian Weaving Village and Sonas World to work with women in the Takeo Province of Cambodia, exclusively in ethical and safe work environments.

Nisolo invests in their makers by paying above fair trade wages, providing skill training and safe working environments. This brand works hard to return fashion to what it once was: an industry that celebrates the value of enduring design and the craftspeople behind it, just as much as the shopper.

Nudie Jeans comes in with 100% organic jeans (meaning makers and we aren’t exposed to chemicals) with repair services to be sure those threads are with you through the seasons. This splurge-worthy brand closely collaborates with their factories, and they are members of the Fair Wear Foundation, an independent, non-profit organization striving to improve working conditions in the textile industry. Great for your man and makers alike!

Veja is a French shoe and accessories line whose three pillars are transparency, organic materials and fair sourcing. They minimize their environmental impact each step of the way through the materials themselves: the rubber, the packaging, the laces, you name it. It’s all in the details here and sweatshops aren’t a part of it. Their success is your everyday style.

Thank you for your comment! We are big fans of PACT Apparel and support their line! They source from an organic farm cooperative that employs 35,000 farmers in India, helping these farmers steer clear of pesticides and GMO seeds. We just learned that their line will be available at Target, which is such a win!
