I am a 24-year old, and I have been sewing underwear for Hanes in Haiti for 6 years. I am a single mother of two whose husband left to find work in Chile and never returned. I am not sure where I go from here?

I hate my job. I’ve been sitting on sewing machines, doing the same thing every day for 6 years. Its repetitive and back breaking work. I know I am not educated, but some job rotation would have been nice.

Before joining the factory, I used to take photos for a charity group that worked in Haiti. It was fun to document my community but like all charities they took what they needed and left. Nothing changed.

I now just hope for a better future for my 8 year old daughter and 5 year old son.
I do like fashion, especially bright colors. And do think about the people who buy what we make. I’d say to them buy more from Haiti. It helps me secure a future for my children. But my own dreams have been extinguished a long time ago.
