On Remake’s February Community Call, we will be be joined by two very special guests to get an exclusive behind the scenes look into the fashion industry:
Dr. Mark Anner, Professor of Labor and Employment Relations and Political Science Director, Center for Global Worker Rights, Pennsylvania State University
Dr. Sanchita Banerjee Saxena, Executive Director of the Institute for South Asia Studies at UC Berkeley
In conversation with Ayesha Barenblat, Founder and CEO, Remake.
On this call we will unpack how COVID-19 has deepened inequity across the fashion supply chain with:
- The top 20 most profitable brands – including Adidas, Gap, H&M, Nike and Zara – increased their market value by 11% during the pandemic.
- Despite making pandemic profits, fashion brands lowered the prices paid to factories by an average of 12%.
- Meanwhile garment worker wages dropped by 21% with growing livelihood, health and safety concerns.
This call is an opportunity to better understand our newly launched #ShareYourProfits campaign to address the growing inequity between garment makers and fashion brands. Together we can ensure that the industry puts people before profits.
